Got an idea? You’re in the right place 🌏

Ready, set, build. Foundler returns with a new team as we set out to make this year the biggest year for Foundler yet. With now more than 1,000 registered users, a variety of dedicated sponsors and the knowledge and guidance of our mentors and guest judges – we’re doubling down on hosting incredible events for our community of creatives.

The next hackathon is no exception. Sponsored by Startup Button, SignUpFirstSquads and Product Hunt, participants have one of the biggest prize pools of Foundler history to look forward to. Commencing Friday, the 19th of May at 5:00PM (EST) – teams have almost an entire weekend to collaborate and work on their startups. Initial team pitches commence at 10:30AM (EST) and final submissions/pitches begin on Sunday, the 2nd of April at 5:00PM. Judging will then take place before a winning team for the weekend is announced. This process can take up to 1-2 hours.

This weekend is sponsored by Startup ButtonSignUpFirstSquads and Product Hunt, who are providing the winning and runner-up teams with prizes valued at over $500 💸

The final stage of a weekend is judging. Each week a new panel of judges will be selected to share their opinions whilst critiquing teams and the startups they create. The judging panel for our first weekend consists of Niv Dror, Iwein Fuld and Ryan Heybourn.

  • Jake Frey – Jake is a designer and entrepreneur based in New York City. Previously @Fancy as a Creative Director, he now owns and operates his own private design studio named Frey Labs. Jake recently founded Neue Store, a better alternative to the Apple App Store.
  • Iwein Fuld – Iwein is the founder of Squads, the worlds largest online marketplace for on-demand teams to build digital products for your company or startup. Since 2013, Iwein has been building Squads and connecting great teams to many intrapreneurs & entrepreneurs that build innovative digital products.
  • Ryan Heybourn – After becoming frustrated with the lack of startup weekends and resources for startups in New Zealand, Ryan created Foundler. He has founded several successful products and businesses, providing him with a complex set of skills and the knowledge required to guide participants throughout the event.

Does it cost money?

This weekend costs $20. A registration fee helps to ensure participants are serious about taking part whilst eliminating spam accounts and fake registrations.

Can I participate with friends?

We’ve recently introduced the ability to participate in a team consisting of people you already know. In order to add friends to your team, you must first be registered for the weekend. Once registered, you’ll be prompted to enter the email addresses of those you wish to participate with. Once those users also register for the weekend, you’ll be matched and placed into an according team.

*Prize subject to the SignUpFirst & Startup Button criteria for startup submissions.

What is Foundler?

Foundler hosts online hackathon weekends. These are web-based events which aim to provide entrepreneurs with the necessary support and resources they require to create and launch a successful startup, without the need to travel to an event or meetup in order to participate. Once registered, participants are placed into a team with three others and given access to a variety of resources such as Slack, Skype and a mentor who is available to assist them throughout the event. From here, they have just 48 hours to pitch an idea, collaborate, build and launch, before their idea is presented to a panel of guest judges.

How does it work?

As Foundler weekends are hosted online, no travel to a location or meetup is necessary to participate. Eliminating this factor allows for anyone, from anywhere in the world to pitch, create and share their ideas.

  1. Sign up and create your Foundler profile before registering for an upcoming weekend. Within 12 hours, you’ll receive a notification stating whether or not you have been selected to participate.
  2. Two days prior to the weekend, you’ll be placed into a team with three others, based on skills, time zones and languages. After 24 hours, their information and contact details will become readily available for you to access from your dashboard. Your team will also be provided with a variety of helpful resources and tools, such as a free .co domain name (on request) and Slack channel for communication between members.
  3. Once the weekend commences, your team has 48 hours to collaborate, pitch and produce an idea, before turning it into a living, breathing startup. This will then be presented to other participants and submitted to a panel of guest judges. A winning team for the weekend will then be announced.

Who should participate?

Anyone! People with all levels of experience and skill are welcome to participate in a weekend.

Why should I participate?

  • Build connections and friendships by spending a weekend with other like-minded individuals and entrepreneurs.
  • Participate from your happy place, anywhere in the world. No travel to an event or meetup is necessary.
  • Learn how to create and launch a startup by doing, instead of reading about it.
  • Collaborate with people from all over the globe, with various levels of skill sets and experience.
  • Step outside of your comfort zone – Try your hand at something new.
  • Work on an idea that could potentially help people.
  • Chat with and learn from tech and startup leaders who watch over the event and contribute as mentors and judges.

What happens once the weekend is over?

Where you go from there is up to you. Hundreds of successful startups have originated from various hackathon/startup weekend events all over the world and over 25% of all teams continue to work together on their original ideas.  Didn’t collaborate with your team well last weekend? Foundler weekends occur every other week, so participating again is always an option!

Count me in!

That’s awesome to hear! To register, simply hit the ‘register for this weekend’ button on the sidebar and fill out your details.
