Ahoy there! Welcome to the second official Foundler weekend!

The event commences Friday, the 2nd of December at 5:00PM (UTC) – providing teams with almost an entire weekend to collaborate and work on their startups. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, the 4th of December at 5:00PM. Judging will then take place before a winning team for the weekend is announced. This process can take up to 1-2 hours.

Does it cost?

Our second weekend is discounted, costing only $15 – allowing us to roll out new features and receive feedback from participants in an environment where there is no need to worry about being left out of pocket for a weekend they may have not enjoyed. A registration fee also helps to ensure participants are serious about taking part whilst eliminating spam accounts and fake registrations.

Can I participate with friends?

With our new update, we’ve introduced the ability to participate in a team consisting of people you already know. In order to add friends to your team, you must first be registered for the weekend. Once registered, you’ll be prompted to enter the email addresses of those you wish to participate with, separated by a comma. Once those users also register for the weekend, you’ll be matched and placed into an according team.

The final stage of a weekend is judging. Each week a new panel of judges will be selected to share their opinions whilst critiquing teams and the startups they create. The judging panel for our first weekend consists of Kaelen Diskin, David Allison and Ryan Heybourn.

  • Mathew Carpenter – Mathew is a 23 year old entrepreneur from Sydney, Australia. He has launched numerous businesses & products, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars, tens of millions of visitors and millions of social media shares. His most notable startup, ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com went viral in 2015 and was later sold for $85,000.
  • David Allison – David is the sole founder of signupfirst.com and a slew of other online ventures. Curating SignUpFirst has helped him develop a strong eye for successful products and passion for helping startups gain traction.
  • Ryan Heybourn – After becoming frustrated with the lack of startup weekends and resources for startups in New Zealand, Ryan created Foundler. He has founded several successful products and businesses, providing him with a complex set of skills and the knowledge required to guide participants throughout the event.

This weekend is sponsored by the folks over at Resend.io. Resend is a live chat platform, providing a variety of features to engage website visitors and increase sales. All participants have kindly been provided with free support and exclusive access to their platform.

So, what is Foundler?

Foundler hosts weekly, online startup weekends. These are weekend long, web-based events which aim to provide entrepreneurs with the necessary support and resources they require to create and launch a successful startup, without the need to travel to an event or meetup in order to participate. Once registered, participants are placed into a team with three others and given access to a variety of resources such as Slack, Skype and a mentor who is available to assist them throughout the event. From here, they have just 48 hours to pitch an idea, collaborate, build and launch, before their idea is presented to a panel of guest judges.

This sounds rad! How does it work?

As Foundler weekends are hosted online, no travel to a location or meetup is necessary to participate. Eliminating this factor allows for anyone, from anywhere in the world to pitch, create and share their ideas.

  1. Sign up and create your Foundler profile before registering for an upcoming weekend. Within 12 hours, you’ll receive a notification stating whether or not you have been selected to participate.
  2. Two days prior to the weekend, you’ll be placed into a team with three others, based on skills, time zones and languages. After 24 hours, their information and contact details will become readily available for you to access from your dashboard. Your team will also be provided with a variety of helpful resources and tools, such as a free .co domain name (on request) and Slack channel for communication between members.
  3. Once the weekend commences, your team has 48 hours to collaborate, pitch and produce an idea, before turning it into a living, breathing startup. This will then be presented to other participants and submitted to a panel of guest judges. A winning team for the weekend will then be announced.

Who should participate?

Anyone! People with all levels of experience and skill are welcome to participate in a weekend.

Why should I participate?

  • Build connections and friendships by spending a weekend with other like-minded individuals and entrepreneurs.
  • Participate from your happy place, anywhere in the world. No travel to an event or meetup is necessary.
  • Learn how to create and launch a startup by doing, instead of reading about it.

What happens once the weekend is over?

Where you go from there is up to you.
